Collage workshop

This is a step by step guide to how we were shown to create a textured collage using a variety of techniques.
We began by shredding some newspaper and gluing it down to half of a sketchbook page considering composition
We then added a thin layer of emulsion to dull down the colour of the print on the page which would make a later sketch stand out more
After this whilst it was all still wet we tore sections of the newspaper off to give a contrast of colour and to give it more texture
The pieces we tore off we then stuck down to another sheet to create a second composition without wasting any materials
We then sketched over this using compressed charcoal which i feel played nicely with the light background and texture

We did the same on the second piece we had created giving a similar but different effect
We then repeated the process with tissue paper to give a different effect

I feel it doesn't look as effective with this colour background as it masked the tone i was trying to put in more than a light colour would and I didn't like working with this media as it tore and distorted too easily
I tried again with tissue paper but using a lighter colour, I feel this is more effective as it stands out more and looks more realistic.
