Photography workshop 11th, 12th january 2016

In this work shop we were taught basic Photoshop techniques and photography skills.

We began the sessions by going through key terms and the rules of composition.
They included:
    Rule of thirds
    Framing (natural. reflection)
    Visual cropping

Vantage point (where the photographer stands)
    Balance
    Perspective
    Leading lines
    Converging lines

This is what I feel is the most effective of the pieces that I took as I like how the lines lead you through the composition which gives a further effect to the image. I find that the contrast in this composition is subtle yet effective but I feel that if I had have taken this image from a lower angle that it would have given a better effect.

After taking these we were asked to select three that we liked and that had used some of the rules taught earlier and change the levels and contrast within them.

During the next session we were taught how to use various tools on photoshop and told to experiment with different ideas.
To begin with we select the area we wanted to fill with another source , then we selected what we wanted to put in and selected paste special, then it is placed into the selected area indicated by the dashed line, we are then able to resize and realign till we get the desired outcome and if needs be we can alter the area it has to work with by using the white brush to increase the size of the anomaly and black to close it further this allows for a feeling of more control whilst we are creating these pieces I find this method effective but I don't think id use it very often.

This was taken from the internet and used within this piece to create the desired effect on nature growing through suburban landscapes.
For this we changed both the images to black and white to make this easier to work with. Then we placed the other image over the previous one. Before adding a layer mask and changing the opacity of the image so that we can see what we are doing, then we use the black paint brush to erase the parts we don't want to see before positioning it where we feel will look more effective.

overall I found this technique difficult to get my head around but once I had it was a interesting technique to use.

I found that this workshop was very useful for future parts within this project and I would very much enjoy to learn more techniques to try and incorporate.
