Artists Work (Week 2 and 3)

In this work I based my outcomes around three pieces by Fudemae, Andrew Chase and Raymond Pettibon.
I feel that out of my two collages the one containing yellow and purple is better as the section i chose to represent was better suited to this style of working
I drew a series of small charcoal studies based on the work of fudemae and arranged them in a way in which they look in a composition somewhat effective together

These were a series on dry on wet sketched I created, one for each artists. I feel that the one I did based on Andrew Chase's work showed the most resemblance to the real thing and is therefore the most effective in my eyes.

I then followed this up by doing a wet on dry sketch for each artist which i feel were completed with varying degrees of success.
I further developed my Andrew Chase interpretation as I didn't like how it looked. I realised that the left hand side looked as if it was moving so I added a cut out of my artists work and overlayed it onto my work too give the effect that it was moving forward.

I attempted a watercolour version of Raymond's work as that was the media that he had used, I feel that mine was not too far away from his work but I feel this wouldnt be a way I would interpretate work such as this in the future

I used masking tape to create the white sections and used acrylic paint to create my tones of blue and red. I feel that this would be an effective way to work in a similar way to the artist but I would have to do it on a larger scale to get the results I am after

I began to experiment in oil paints and I feel they were successful to a degree as the results look effective and reflect the artists work but however I dont feel that this would be an effective way to work for larger scale and more detailed pieces as it doesnt quite fit my style of work but I feel to be certain of this i would have to try incorporating this media in other ways

I also tried to interpretate his work in oil pastel and I feel this is very effective and I may try this out on a larger scale and work with a larger section of the artists work

I began by sketching out the section I was planning to work with and then followed this by cutting out each piece carefully using a scalpel. I then followed this by gluing my pieces onto the back of printed metal textures so that the remaining pencil lines were facing the page, then again cut them out. I then reassembled them to recreate the original sketch and added the eyes using oil pastel on a layer of cartridge paper to reflect the tones seen in the artists work but this time portraying the piece in a textured medium.

I attempted to show this piece on a variety of different backgrounds and I feel that the red background is most effective as the colour contrasts with the eye colour as they are complimentary colours.

Dry on wet media experimenting

With these sketches we put emulsion down to create a texture whether that was using a brush or our fingers etc.. We then went over the emulsion whilst still wet with charcoal or graphite to create some observational sketches from one of our objects.
Similarly to laying down thick texture building layers of emulsion we could also lay down a thin layer which revealed the brush strokes when sketched over using our media.
I feel that the sketch that I had created by using the thin layer of emulsion was my most successful as it gave my object a stronger interpretation of my object that i was working from.

Artists Observations (Week One)

the sketches below were created from this artists work and were done using different time scales, sizes of paper to fill and different colours or multiple colours.

I feel that overall this is my most effective from this source as I find the way in which the dark blue is faded slightly by the white gives it a interesting effect that is effective on the viewer
I feel that in order for this to be a more effective piece a lighter tone of green shouldve been used to contrast with the dark tone of blue.

I feel that this graphite sketch was good as it is proportional and I feel that continuous line was a good technique to use for this form as it still looks effective even though you can see the lines where I have had to leave gaps.

MECHANICAL-WOLF-RUNNING
These were done using the work of Andrew Chase and I intended to capture the form and tone of the artists work using various media and styles of working.

I attempted to incorporate different tones into this piece to try and make it look a little less flat, I feel I was semi-successful with this but if I were to do this again I would hopefully get a stronger result and it would be more effective to the viewer.

I feel that the sketch above and below are the most effective created from this source as I like how the colours have complimented each other nicely to create an effective and eye-catching piece.

I feel that this sketch is effective as the use of tone portrays the source accurately but I feel that focusing on a smaller are would help me to
I feel that this sketch isnt very effective as I feel I focused on an are too large for the space I used so if I were to do this again I would either focus on a smaller area and make it larger or do it on a larger scale.

I feel that this is my most effective from this source as it portrays the source in an accurate way with an accurate use of colour.

I feel that this is a good interpretation of how the artist uses tones of colour to create the effect of motion along with the direction of his marks

I feel that this source wouldnt be suited to interoperate in charcoal as the range of tones I am looking for I can not seem to achieve with this media

I feel that this is an effective way to interperetate as I am able to get all of the marks and tones into it.
